Conclusion and Recommendations

  • Regarding the leadership styles, we found that commonly two leadership styles i.e., transformational and consideration are used in Australia both in 2014 and 2019.

  • Also, both the leadership styles include innovation, creativity and positive attitude

  • However, in 2019, there are traces of having one more leadership style that is democratic leadership style.

  • Democratic and consideration leadership styles have some similar characteristics.

  • Among supervisors, only transformational and consideration leadership styles were observed and while recruiting supervisors these two styles were considered as their proportion of variance was considerable in both years.

  • However, supervisors have adapted more of transformational style as compared to the consideration style.

  • Regarding immediate workgroups and immediate supervisor in both years although workgroups are committed to workplace safety and supervisors treat people with respect, it seems like male participants had a more negative perception about their supervisor’s communication skills than females. It is advised that supervisors can improve this by growing emotional intelligence, building trust and transparency, and practicing non-defensive communications.

  • Subordinates’ perceptions about wellbeing have improved in all areas of examination such as work-life balance, not having time pressure, receiving respect, etc. by 2019.

  • Regarding performance, one of areas that need improvement is “My supervisor provides me with clear and consistent performance expectations” which is again confirming the previous point of supervisors not communicating enough with their subordinates, and second area that needs improvement is that "To what extent do you agree that the support by your supervisor has helped you to improve your performance.” This item has a “Strongly agree” profile but it is on its way to downgrading to “agree” status in our examined period. Again, this is referring to lack of communication in between subordinates and supervisors.

  • The most significant barrier that avoids employees to perform their best is the current technology that is being used in their agency. By upgrading these technologies employees will definitely have a better experience at their workplace and performance will be significantly optimized.
